Travel Article: Tips on avoiding motion sickness in kidsBy: Laine Yates
1) Check with your doctor before your trip on which medication is best for your child. Most medications are required to be taken even before the journey begins. 2) Watch out for early signs during the journey - are they a bit sweaty, pale, dizzy or feeling nauseous? 3) Stop for some fresh air or if you can't do that, wind down the window. 4) Rather than focusing on something inside the car, try playing "I spy" which will get them looking around outside the car. This will help them feel a bit better. 5) Limit your child from reading books or playing their hand held games. Try listening to a story or music Cds instead and encourage them to look outside whilst listening. 6) Avoid putting children with motion sickness in the back of minivans or station wagons as they tend to feel this more in the rear seats. 7) Dry crackers and easy to digest food will help settle their tummies. Also make sure that you do not have any strong smelling food in the car! Remember, that an empty tummy does not help motion sickness. 8) Bring some towels to put over them if they feeling a bit nauseous. This might save their clothes and possibly your car interior! 9) Pack a change of clothes and keep it in easy reach. 10) Plastic bags are a must for sealing soiled clothes. 11) Large containers can be used for them to hold onto whilst your driving ... just in case! Old ice cream tubs are perfect. I hope these motion sickness tips will help you get through your long car trips. Happy Travels!
