Travel Article: Fun things for the car tripBy: Laine Yates
1) Story and music cds – our kids love listening to these when we have “quiet time”. It also gives us a bit of a break which we all need on every car trip! 2) Spot it Travel - a must to keep the kids out of mischief! We have a couple of boards in the car and have a competition of who can mark off their items first. Everyone is a winner and receives a treat ... this helps minimising the tantrums! 3) Footballs (or tennis balls if you do not have the space), Frisbees, skipping ropes etc - to play in the parks when you have your rest stops. These are also handy toys to have for outdoor play at your holiday destination. 4) Activity books and magic sticker play scenes – this is a great way for kids to pass some time. We have some great activity books – Mazes, Crossword, Hidden Pictures, Dot-to-Dot and Games & Puzzles. Also, the Magic Sticker Play scenes are brilliant as stickers can be re-used on the brightly coloured play scene. We have titles such as Maisy, Girls Get Together, Cinderella, Zoo, Knights and Castles, Fire Station, Dinosaurs and Travel Bingo. 5) Hand held games - although I am not a huge fan of this, it does entertain kids and you can limit the time they spend on it. There are also some educational alternatives - we have the Leap Frog Leapster, which is great. I tend to bring this out when we have been in the car for longer than planned due to traffic from car accidents, bad weather etc. 6) Do not forget our great ickle activity packs - we do the work for you! We can also tailor the packs to suit your child's needs – their age and interests. Click here to email us your requirements, age of your children, what you need the packs for and we will do the rest! 7) Portable DVD players – again, I am not a huge fan of these but I have to admit it is a handy solution to a potential “melt down” scenario. It gives the kids a bit of peace and quiet when they are exhausted and fed up of being in the car. 8) I tend to keep the activity packs up front with me. I find that if I give our kids the packs straight away, they will go through each activity too quickly. By keeping them with me, I can space each activity out a bit, which enables them to spend more time on each one. A win-win solution! I hope this has given you a few ideas on what to pack to keep the kids entertained. If you need any more ideas, be sure to check our great range of Travel Toys and Activity Packs.

Part of the fun of a car trip is to spend some quality time together as a family. We love chatting and having conversations about all sorts of things with our kids. But there comes a time in every car trip that we all need a bit of a break!
