Party Season Fitness Survival Guide
By: The Rancan Sisters
It's the combination of food and alcohol that makes for a fitness and diet disaster during the Christmas party season.
Not only do people enjoy a few extra yuletide beverages, but food choices are usually dictated by the party canapés on offer. Added alcohol intake sends the liver into overdrive processing the toxins and as a result, the high calorie/kilojoules canapés go straight into fat stores.
As the social calendar ramps up your exercise time diminishes. Concentrate on high intensity, short burst workouts in the morning and YES, also in the evening when you can!
By adding an extra short burst of fitness to your routine, you could be burning up to 300 extra calories a day. Do it every day and this can add up to a total of 2,100 calories over the week.
Keeping on top of your exercise routine means you'll burn up the extra calories consumed over the party season. Let your exercise go over the course of a few party-filled weeks and your body could become a fat storing, rather than a fat burning machine.
Easy Workout
Open the door and head for hills! Walk or jog up hills, recover and repeat until you've managed a 30-minute session.
The following session should focus on muscle strengthening. If you don't have weights go for push-ups and sit-ups, squats and lunges, tricep dips and hold the plank position.
REPEAT 3- 10 of each until you've clocked up a 30 minute workout.
Monitor Your Measurements
Take a waist measurement before the parties begin. Increased alcohol intake can cause you to bulk up around the middle - increasing the risk of cancers, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Checking your measurements will keep you on track.
How to do it: Take the measurement inline with your belly button. A woman's waist measurement should be under 80cm, a man's under 94cm.
Pep up with Oxygen!
A quick burst of oxygen gained from a short work-out will recharge the sleep-deprived party goer. You'll look fresher from the increase in circulation to the skin, you'll drink more water and gravitate towards healthier food options.
