Does Exercise Get Rid of Cellulite?
By: The Rancan Sisters
Spring is here, summer's on its way and for the next six months you'll be showing a lot more skin!
We all know the feeling of trying on that first bikini of the season. The harsh fluorescent lighting doesn't exactly flatter pale and pasty post-winter skin and to make matters worse, on closer inspection there are tell-tale dimples on your backside and legs...
How to smooth the bumps in time to brave that bikini on the beach?!
First to explain what causes that nasty lumpy effect that is the bane of many a woman's summer.
Cellulite is a type of fat - it's caused by fat pushing through fibrous bands of connective tissue that lies under the skin. Genetically we either have a lot of this fibrous tissue or not so much. The best thing to do is to soften the fibrous bands and also reduce the amount of fat that is pushing through them.
- The first plan of attack is to hydrate. Drink plenty of water - 2-3 litres a day. Purchase a 2-litre water container so you know exactly how much you have drunk throughout the day.
- Toxins will make the cellulite appear worse so avoid caffeine, alcohol and processed or salty foods.
- Food choice is vital - you are what you eat. If you want to look fat, eat fat. If you want to look lean, choose whole, non-processed and FRESH foods. It's so much easier in summer to barbecue some fish, chicken or lean meat and put some salad with it.
- Next - start sweating, get rid of those toxins. You'll have to exert yourself to get up a good sweat.
- Circulation -we've had fantastic results in cellulite reduction from using FITVIBE vibration training in combination with cardio (running or on a stationary bike).
- Weight training - start working on that lean muscle tissue to burn more calories at rest and rev up your metabolism.
- Include a pilates or yoga session in your weekly workouts for longer, leaner muscles. Stretching out the muscle fibres will also improve the appearance of fat lying under the skin.
Follow these steps and in just a few weeks you'll be sporting a healthy glow and feeling more energised. Reward your fabulous new self with a new summer hairstyle, some essential wardrobe pieces or a spa pedicure!

PS. A word of warning - be cautious about paying huge amounts of money on miracle cures for cellulite. There are some treatments that can loosen the connective tissue and soften the appearance of cellulite, but there are also some that are temporary and a waste of money. Do your research carefully before investing in expensive treatments.
