On average, Australians gain a huge 3kg of weight during the end of year period! Below the Rancan Sisters have devised some tips and tricks to keep the holiday kilos at bay.
Get Moving: Rather than focusing on the chore of 'exercise' during your holiday, The Rancan Sisters suggest making movement part of your daily activities and getting your whole family involved.
Get up a little bit earlier and enjoy some 'me time' with a power walk along the beach. Don't be scared of early mornings, you'll have the whole afternoon for relaxation
If you're heading to the beach, spend a little longer in the water - aim for 20 mins of constant movement
Or try deep water walking, great for shaping the legs. Stay in the thigh high water, travel up the beach for 10 mins and the other way for another 10
An activity like kayaking is great for the whole family and perfect for toning abdominals, bottoms and legs. You could try the Rancan Sisters combined yoga/kayaking classes on Sydney's gorgeous Balmoral Beach
For gym junkies in holiday mode with no gym in site, it's a time to broaden your routine and get outside. Pack a skipping rope in your luggage and try this 20-30 minute workout
Skip for 10 mins
Use the edge of a park bench for 1 x 20 repetitions of triceps dips
10 x push ups and the 'the plank' for 1 min abdominals
Repeat skipping for 10 mins
Bulge Busting Eating:
Beware of the holiday buffet and use a smaller plate size. People often feel like they have to finish what's on their plate. If it's not there, you won't eat it!
Enjoy your holiday carbs, but keep it to a single serve. Aim for one piece of toast or a palm size serve of rice or pasta only for each meal
Add some protein to your meals to fill you up - fish, meat or leafy greens. Don't pig out on the bread before dinner!
Don't be scared to indulge in a sweet treat. But, share with a friend rather than eating the whole thing
Enjoy a drink during the holidays by following each beverage with a glass of water. You'll have less chance of gaining fat around the mid section, waist and abdominal by slowing down your drink intake
