Why Yoga is Good for Your Baby

By: Melinda Minns

The natural movement babies need to experience can be reduced in our modern fast paced world today by the use of prams, car seats baby slings and carriers etc. By introducing the gentle stretches and movements associated in Baby Yoga as part of your baby's daily routine you will help to promote your baby’s general health and well-being.

Benefits of Baby Yoga

  • Helps baby sleep better and longer
  • Improves Digestion
  • Relieve Wind, Colic and Constipation
  • Strengthens the Immune system
  • Increases Neuromuscular Development
  • Increases Body Awareness
  • Enhances the Loving Parent/Baby Bond

Baby Yoga works on engaging muscles and then releasing them, leaving baby feeling relaxed and content, and this may assist in peaceful longer sleeps and less waking during the night (this means a better sleep for mum and dad too!!).

Parents who practice Baby yoga with their infants notice a deeper parent-child bond and a greater confidence in parenting skills, which leads to less stress and anxiety. Baby Yoga is also a wonderful way to spend that "special" one on one time with your newborn or toddler.

Your yoga practice can take as little as 30 seconds or as long as 30 minutes and can be done anytime of the day or night, and as often as your baby likes. Practicing Yoga with your baby will leave your baby feeling happy and relaxed, which is a great way to start life!
