Nurture Your Soul
Western cultures tend to measure success by accomplishment and progress defining people more by what they do than who they are. As a result, we've become so caught up in achieving in life that our soul is often neglected and deprived of the nurture it deserves and requires. Whenever you feel there are not enough hours in the day the first thing you should do is let go of guilt!... read more

Wearing Out Your Toddler When it's Raining!
Well, you probably would agree that we are experiencing unusual weather and in Australia it has been raining a lot this year. Parents should start lumpy foods early, prevent problems later...
Delaying a baby's progress from puree to lumps may result in fussy eating that continues into the school-age years, latest research reveals. Research has found babies introduced to lumpy solids later than nine months had more restrictive eating patterns and ate a less varied diet with fewer fruits and vegetables at 7 years of age, than those children introduced to lumps earlier... read more

Improving the emotional wellbeing of parents when bringing baby home
Welcoming a new baby into the world can be both exciting and daunting for parents. Help has arrived for expecting parents looking for more information than they find in ante-natal classes. Towards Parenthood: Preparing for the changes and challenges of a new baby is the companion text to the highly successful Toward Parenthood Program developed at the Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI) at Austin Health... read more

Two Babies in One Year!

Irish Twins
I first came across this term a few years ago reading one of the many baby care books around. Little did I know I would come to know very well just what that term means! Basically Irish Twins are not twins at all, but siblings born within 12 months of each other. The exact date of the term origin is not known, but it was originally a derogatory term, referring to the stereotypical fertility of Irish Catholic families, who traditionally do not use birth control, and therefore tended to have children in very quick succession...

New Parenting Tips

Take note of gift givers
On your child's birthday, when the first gift is received start a list noting the gift giver's name and gift, and keep it up to date. If your child has a party, keep a notepad and pen handy for this as they may receive many gifts at once, making it hard to remember who gave them what. If you're busy hosting the party, assign a trusted friend or relative to this task. This is a great keepsake plus makes thank yous much easier later on.

Get the right day for Play School
If you record Play School for your kids, name the file/tape the day of the week it was aired. Then when you replay it try to show the right episode on the right day, so that when the day of the week is referred to it is correct to help your child learn their days.

Discussion Issue

Should women have the right to choose what labour pain relief is appropriate for them?
Last week, News.com.au reported that leading UK midwife Dr Denis Walsh claimed that "women should embrace the full pain of childbirth to bond with their babies instead of resorting to anaesthetic drugs...the pain prepares women for the responsibilities of motherhood". The report suggests that up to 20% of epidurals are unnecessary. Tracey Spicer responded to the report, sharing her views on labour pain, childbirth and bonding.

Do you agree with Dr Walsh's opinion, or do you think that women should have the right to choose what pain relief is appropriate?

Baby Sticky Bowl
This nifty idea helps baby learn to eat from a bowl without being able to lift the bowl up and make a mess. It helps reduce frustration while baby is learning to use utensils as they don't have to worry about holding onto the bowl as well. It can be used with most pre-existing bowls... read more
