Winter - the perfect time for kids to learn to swim!
Often we think of swimming as a summer sport and that summer is the best time to teach your kids to swim - but is it? On the surface this seems reasonable and logical especially when most outdoor swimming pools and learn to swim facilities close during the colder months of the year. But is this reasonable and logical assumption correct?... read more

Teaching your kids good organising habits
The way our brain is built dictates our natural level of "organisedness". Certain parts of our brains are responsible for logic, organised, sequential thought. For some of us, it's the most dominant part of our brain. For others, it's the opposite! If your kids struggle to keep their time and their spaces organised, there are a few measures you can take to help them... read more

Example Reader's Question for Ruth:
My daughter is 17 months old, is very shy and clingy when with new people and places - and can take quite a long time to get to know someone. She currently does not go to childcare but I am considering it... what is the best way to settle her in?

Breastfeeding and Postnatal Depression
Postnatal Depression affects many mums all over the world, it's nothing new (although it may have been called different things over the ages) and it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. While we're not exactly sure what causes postnatal depression the symptoms include a loss of confidence or self esteem, memory difficulties and loss of concentration, feeling guilty and inadequate... read more

Finally a portable steriliser that fits in your bag!
Nobody likes to see their baby sick. A pacifier is a common breeding ground and transporter of harmful germs. Help prevent these little nasties from harming your precious little ones by using the worlds first purpose built portable pacifier sterilizer - Pipila... read more

Preventing Neural Tube Defects During Pregnancy

Neural Tube Defects (NTDs)
Within the first four weeks of pregnancy, the embryo forms and closes a neural tube. This tube becomes the spine and brain of the developing child. If the tube doesn't close correctly, the baby is said to have a neural tube defect (NTD). NTDs can be tested for at about 16 - 18 weeks of pregnancy, and most cases are identified using an ultrasound and the triple test... read more

New Parenting Tips

Start preparing for your hospital bag early
At about 30 weeks pregnant I started buying extra shampoo, toothpaste and other toiletries when they were on sale for my hospital bag so I wouldn't have the expense all at once when it was time to pack my bag. Then I also had the products to use after the baby came which saved money and saved having to shop for them.

Find oven recipes
Try to find recipes which are baked in the oven so that you can prepare them and let them cook whilst organising dinner for the kids. For example, risotto cooked in a saucepan needs constant stirring and attention, unlike risotto cooked in the oven which will take long enough to cook to give you time to get organised.
