New Parenting Tips

Keep things low key for night feeds
When night feeding my new daughter, I was told of a tip to help the new baby 'learn' about night time, and that this is only for sleeping! When bub wakes for a feed, I'd get her out of bed, change her nappy (or whatever your usual routine is), feed, settle and back to bed with no light and minimal noise, such as talking and singing. This teaches them, especially as they grow and become more playful and smiley, that all of this can be done through the day, and to be calm and relaxed through the night. My little girl slept through the night and graduated to her own room by six weeks old and is fully breastfed (I've heard breastfed children don't tend to sleep as long as formula fed...). I'll be trying this with our bub-to-be also!

Get baby's memory box started early
Before your baby is born, buy a large plastic storage container to use as a "memory box". Start adding memories as you get them, even when you are still pregnant. With my first baby I tended to put things in a "safe place" and by the time I got around to making a memory box I couldn't remember where half the things to go in it had gone! I was much better organised the next time round.
