 Development
Of Fine Motor Skills In Babies And Toddlers - Fun And Educational
Activities
It is a well known and research-supported fact that development
of fine motor skills in babies and toddlers is directly
linked to many important and complex brain functions such
as, for instance, language skills. This is why it is so
important to monitor how those skills are maturing and whenever
possible help the child along by playing games and doing
activities that help to develop them... read

One Mum's Story
 Leigh-anne's
Story
Leigh-anne was delighted to be pregnant with twins, and
was comfortable with the prospect of a caesar for their
delivery. Everything went fine with the birth, but it was afterwards
when she lost the feeling in her hands that she realised
things had gone horribly wrong. She didn't know if she
was ever going to meet her babies or see her two and a half year
old again... read

New Parenting Tips
Keep Your Hospital List for Next Time Round
When you have a baby, if you have made a list of things
to take to hospital, find a spare few minutes to note down
the items you found you used and those you found you didn't
need and to add on anything you wish you'd taken or done
differently. Keep this list in a safe place - it will make
packing your hospital bags much easier next time round or
could help out a friend with packing hers.
A Trick for Fussy Eaters
If your toddler is fussy and won't eat their vegies, try blending them all in
together with mashed potato and a teaspoon of Vegemite for taste. They'll never
know what's in there. Works great for husbands too!

Discussion Issue
Did/will you have
paid maternity leave?
In Australia mums are entitled to 6 weeks unpaid maternity leave. This is all some mums receive, but some are entitled to paid maternity leave. There are many factors which can affect this - whether you are in the private or public sector, how large your organisation is, how long you have been in your current position, which industry you work in, what your employer is willing to negotiate with you and so on.
Did you or will you have paid maternity leave? If so, do you know what factors made the difference? How long is your paid maternity leave? Did you have to negotiate with your employer or were you automatically entitled to it? Did you have the option to take a longer period of paid maternity leave but with half pay?
If you didn't receive paid maternity leave, do you know why? Has this made things harder?
