Child
care: not as easy as ABC (Prof. Deborah Brennan)
The drama surrounding child-care group ABC Learning suggests
it is time to rethink aspects of Australia's approach to
the provision of early childhood education and care. At
the very least, the anxiety generated by the collapse of
the company's share price should make policy makers and
politicians reflect upon the consequences of Australia's
heavy reliance upon a single provider... read

Organic
- The New Generation of Baby Food

organic food the demand for organic produce is growing rapidly
in Australia with organic sales increasing by 25% alone in
2006. Not all organic baby foods have the same level of nutrition
texture and taste. Australia is following international trends
that 'fresh frozen' is the better and healthier meal for your
baby... read

One Mum's Story
Rebecca
Cross' Story
Rebecca was told she would probably never conceive a child
after finding out she had endometriosis and polycystic ovaries
at the age of 20. After years of erratic menstrual patterns
nothing seemed amiss when she missed her period for several
months - until she discovered she was 16 weeks pregnant,
her baby even having survived a hysteroscopy at 2 weeks...

Issue
Did you give birth naturally or by caesarean section?
Although many women give birth naturally, many plan to but end up having to have an emergency caesar. Some women know they will need a planned caesar right from the start for medical reasons, and more and more women are now choosing to have elective caesars.
How did you give birth? If you are pregnant, are you planning to give birth naturally or to have a caesar? If you had an emergency caesar, how did you feel about this? If you had a planned caesar, how did it feel to know your baby's birthdate in advance?

Baby Food Jars for Portioning and Freezing Meals
Don't throw out your empty baby food jars, wash and sterilise
them instead and use these to store/freeze your home-made
baby food. Puree left-overs from main meals (left-over sheppard’s
pie was my youngest daughter's favourite, no worries with
the onions) with a stick mixer, spoon into the sterilised
jars, seal and freeze. The frozen jars are great to keep
the baby's lunchbox and bottles cold when you are out and
only takes 1 minute in the microwave to defrost to a spoonable
stage so you can spoon out what you need for that feed into
baby's bowl and heat that and put the rest of the frozen
jar in the fridge for another meal. Bacon, broccoli, cauli
and potato is a favourite mix or chicken and veg, pureed
spaghetti etc.

Learn
with Fridge Magnets Anywhere
Buy a cheap lamington tin for baby's fridge magnets so they
can be played with anywhere - not just infront of the fridge.
It's easier to sit down with baby in the lounge for example
and make words from magnet letters, identify magnet animals
etc. than trying to get comfortable on the floor
in front of the fridge. The magnets can also be stored in
the tin and it will save your fridge from being marked by
the magnets.
