Reader’s Question

I am 20 weeks pregnant and have really unsightly acne all over my face. Please let me know what I can do, I have never had acne before and it is really getting me down.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You are certainly not alone in getting any type of skin change like Acne and I know personally how frustrating this can be when you want to look your best during the next 6 months of your pregnancy. Belli has an Acne Clearing Facial Wash that is specially designed for hormonal acne and designed to be safe for use while pregnant. A lot of the acne washes available on the market your doctor will advise cannot be used during pregnancy due to their ingredients, this can be one of the most horrible things to hear as the one time you get acne, you can’t use most products you would normally to help it.

The Belli Acne Wash is a cleanser, toner and exfoliator in one (it does not have the little beads, however the level of Lactic acid exfoliates the skin on its own). It is also a mask that you can use once a week without water and leave on for about 8 minutes to get things really clean. We have a customer Edwina who suffered from the worst acne when she was younger and was on serious medication for it. She had not had any acne for years, then fell pregnant. Her acne returned within 2 months of falling pregnant and of course she could not take any acne medications, orally or topically. She decided to try the Belli wash (she was in tears when she called us) and after about 10 days, using twice a day and mask once a week her skin is now perfect, and she had tried every other option she could find, this was the only one that worked for her. You can also use the Acne wash as a spot treatment.

Another tip is to make sure that you place a little warm water with the wash to use on the face when cleansing but ALWAYS wash off with cold water (the colder the better!). This goes for any time in your life. There are 2 reasons for this. firstly the cold water shuts the pores of the skin immediately, ensuring that bacteria does not get trapped in open pores (which warm water will open up). The second is that cold water stimulates blood flow and this is very effective at ensuring adequate flow of blood for the small vessels of the face to remain unblocked and reduce redness.

A wash needs to have an anti-inflammatory in it as well, to ensure that you are not stripping your face of all the natural goodness it needs to repair and replenish and does not make any spots worse after washing. The Belli Acne Clearing Facial wash contains Green Tea which is a natural anti-inflammatory and Cucumber to soothe and cool the skin.

I hope this helps with your question and if I can assist at all further please do not hesitate to ask. As with all Belli products a little goes a LONG way, so no need to use to much to ensure an effective result.

Take care and know that you are beautiful!
