Media Release: Mums race against time“I find going to the toilet is a luxury to
have thirty seconds of ‘me time’, even then those moments
are few and far between without interruption, I meet myself coming and
going and rarely feel if I am not in a daily amazing race against time!”
The 2006 Australian Bureau of Statistics survey How Australians Use Their Time reveals that women are facing increased time constraints. Since 1997, women have spent on average an additional 2 hours on both paid and unpaid work and 1 hour and 45 minutes less on recreation and leisure activities. Kate Vertsonis, mum coach and founder of It’s All About U Coaching Services, believes that women today need, as a priority, to take time out to focus on their own mental, emotional and physical health. “Mums are burning the candle at both ends. They have schedules for the kids, but rarely think about scheduling valuable time each day for themselves. Mums actually feel guilty about taking time out rather than valuing time for them as a necessity for their own well-being. Mums need to feel good about having time to regroup!” Vertsonis is one of the experts hosting the Mum Coach events in the new Westfield We Are Family Campaign. These Mum Coach events are designed to provide practical advice and helpful tactics for mums to cope with time management. Until 10 August 2008, We Are Family will host a number of free, interactive events on a diverse range of topics at 32 Westfield centres across the nation for mums to learn, share and meet other mums in their local community. To help mums navigate their busy lives, over 1.3 million free Westfield We Are Family local guides will be available with helpful hints from other Mums, expert advice and quick access to community information.
