Nifty Nappy Nabs Good Environmental Choice Award

Sioned Guard and her son Owen GuardSydney – Good Environmental Choice Australia endorsed Moltex Eco Nappies with its Good Environmental Choice Award, on 12th July 2007.

Offering an environmentally preferable alternative to standard disposable nappies, Moltex Eco Nappies are made using a biodegradable backsheet, and specially formulated maize-starch granules for absorption. Packaged in 100% biodegradable bags, Moltex Eco Nappies contain unbleached wood-pulp from sustainable forests and are 100% chlorine free, ideal for children with sensitive skin.

The nappies are also free from TBT (tributyl tin - an environmental pollutant with a hormone-like effect), and contain a natural tea-leaf extract to control odour and yeast infections that often cause nappy rash.

Sioned Guard, director of Moltex's Australian distributors ECOdirect, was delighted by the award, describing it as recognition of the quality of the Moltex brand.

"Good Environmental Choice Australia recognises that Moltex Eco Nappies are environmentally preferable to other disposable nappies available on the Australian market," Guard said. "It should give parents the confidence to know that they have a real guilt-free choice when it comes to disposable nappies in Australia."

ECODirect was founded in September 2004 by Sinead Roberts and Sioned Guard to offer Australian parents a real choice when it came to disposable nappies.

Roberts first encountered the Moltex brand in Europe, when she discovered they were the best option for her baby son who suffered from mild eczema.

"When I got back here and discovered that I could not buy Moltex Eco Nappies in Australia I decided to set up a company and import them to help other parents whose children are prone to allergies and nappy rash," Roberts said. "We hope the award will help us to raise the profile of the Moltex brand, so that parents of babies with sensitive skin realise they have a healthy alternative for their kids."

ECOdirect now delivers nappies direct to the doors of hundreds of families across Australia, along with biodegradable nappy bags and a new range of natural baby care products called WotNot Baby.

Founded on ethical terms, ECOdirect plants a tree through the non-for-profit environmental organization Trees For Life for every box of nappies sold, and donates a percentage of nappy sales to Greening Australia.

"We also donate a percentage of sales of the WotNot baby care range to children's charities, and invite our customers to nominate possible recipients," said Roberts.
