Media Release: You indulge, we donate: Boon Chocolate month of giving to Opportunity AustraliaSydney’s favourite new chocolate haven, Boon Chocolate has partnered with Opportunity International Australia to launch "You indulge, We donate: Boon Chocolate month of giving to Opportunity Australia", proving that business can be creative about helping to alleviate world poverty. Beginning on July 1, You indulge, We donate aims to raise both funds and awareness for Opportunity Australia, a leading provider of microfinance and enterprise development services for people living in poverty. With a keen sense of social awareness, founders of the Boon Chocolate and brother and sister team Alex and Fanny Chan consider themselves an integral part of both the local Darlinghurst neighbourhood and the global community. This has been at the forefront of their desire to support Opportunity Australia’s work with poor entrepreneurs in the Philippines and India. "We are very proud to join forces with Opportunity Australia as we believe it’s a partnership that can have a genuine impact on poverty," says Alex. "To be involved with Opportunity International makes you feel that you are not just working for yourself but society at large." Alex also identifies with the needs of those helped by Opportunity Australia’s. "All entrepreneurs need access to financial and business development services. Because we have been blessed with access to education and opportunity, and live in a high income Australian postcode, we have had the ability to grow a successful business," he says. "The people that Opportunity International work with have been born into slums, the wrong postcode for business success. Opportunity International simply provides them with the tools to develop a business and help themselves out of poverty." Boon already donates a percentage of their corporate sales to Opportunity Australia’s work in the Philippines. With the launch of this a bold new initiative, "You Indulge, We Donate: Boon Chocolates month of giving to Opportunity Australia" in July, a percentage of all sales will go to a Trust Group in the Philippines. A Trust Group is 15-30 poor entrepreneurs who come together to access microfinance (business loans and other financial services) and support to grow a small business and help themselves out of poverty.
