Being Dad: The father of all findings!

A new study conducted by the creators of the global Being Dad documentaries has revealed some surprising results. It seems that despite our best efforts to be prepared, 28% of dads-to-be felt they were not ready to be a father during pregnancy. And that's not all:

  • 58% felt worse off financially
  • 12% wondered if the baby was really theirs
  • 37% said their major emotion after the birth was relief
  • 42% said on their drive home from hospital they drove more carefully than ever
  • 60% said they didn't have sex for at least 2 months after birth
  • 60% said their relationship with partner is now more about the baby
  • 54% felt they were better dads than their own

Over 2000 new Australian dads were surveyed during July 2009 to find out how their lives had changed after becoming a father. Being Dad creator, Troy Jones, believes the research findings will be a real eye opener for many. "Our research shows just how important it is to give more help to first time dads to be. They are generally scared and worried but want to be great dads." Troy explains.

The team attributes this fact to the success of the Being Dad documentaries all around the world. What started as a small, fun project in Australia has grown into a much larger business for the team. They made Being Dad USA and launched this film in the states and are about to launch Being Dad UK.

To celebrate dads all over the world the Lifestyle Channel will screen the newest member to the Being Dad 'family', Being Dad UK on Father's Day (September 6th) at 7pm.

Being Dad UK follows Aussie dad Troy Jones as he travels around the UK interviewing new dads and experts from London, Manchester, Dublin, Scotland and Bath. Hilarious, entertaining and educational it will give all new mums and dads-to-be peace of mind for the journey ahead. It's not just for first time parents; anyone who has children or is thinking about it will laugh, cry and marvel at what the guys have to say about being a modern day dad.

Troy Jones was recently added to the Parents.com Dads Hall of Fame list of important dads for his contribution as a 'dad who helps dads'. He is one of only 14 dads on the list which includes Barack Obama and Brad Pitt.

The Australian version of Being Dad is available from www.beingdad.com.au or from Big W nationally.
