Forget Hollywood's hot mummies - Aussie women are just as yummy

Who's a yummy mummy? Nicole Richie? Kate Moss? Kate Hudson? NO! 'I am a yummy mummy,' say 49% of Australian mothers who took part in recent research conducted by leading baby and toddler brand Tommee Tippee*.

Despite the yummy mummy stereotype usually perceived to be someone that totters around in heels like Victoria Beckham; has immaculate hair and designer clothing, like Gwen Stefani; or a glamorous baby bump like Jessica Alba, less than 1% of participants listed a celebrity example as the ideal mum.

And in contrast to Hollywood's celebrity mums - when asked to list their top hot mum, the survey revealed 40% of real mummies chose down-to-earth, hands on types such as Princess Mary, Cate Blanchett and Sarah Murdoch.

But if high heels and Gucci handbags are not high on the agenda, what do mummies really think is yummy? A mere 16% of Australian mothers place high importance on their appearance and more than half of the 3865 women surveyed, are completely happy with their post-baby bodies - stretch marks and all! 15% also said they feel much better about their appearance since becoming a mum.

What's more, a quarter of all mums surveyed consider 'happiness, good health' and 'pride in their families and ability as a mother' as the defining factors of being a yummy mummy - with responses including - "A yummy mummy is a confident, happy mum looking after both her children and herself" and "it means someone who loves being a mum and loves being pregnant - and knows you don't have to look good all the time! Who does!".

Family really is everything to Aussie mums with 78% looking to their husbands to guide their decisions. Their extended families (50%) and mother's group (30%) also have a great influence in their life - not celebrities and the media as many still think! Single friends also failed to have a significant effect on Australian mothers' decisions at only 3%.

And if you think being a yummy mummy is all about chai lattes and reading gossip magazines in the park, Australian mum's online habits revealed they're very much an integral part of the family home - not only looking after the children, but also managing banking matters, searching the net for new recipes and even selling the car or house ONLINE! 7% also like to keep up with the latest online news on a daily basis - and 12% spend time on social networks, like Facebook, or chatting to other mums on parenting websites.

So it's official! Real Australian mummies don't aspire to look or act like their celebrity counterparts; they don't spend their time shopping or feel pressure to be yummy mummies - because they are yummy mummies all on their own! And as Tommee Tippee knows, nothing is yummier than a loving and enthusiastic mum whose main priority is kissing her babies goodnight.
