Reader's Question

Hi Kirsti,

I am a young mum, 23, with two gorgeous kids, Jake 2 and Tahlia 5 months. I have been feeling very lonely, down and not happy at all lately. I don't know what will make me happy, it's affecting my relationship with my partner, I've lost all my confidence, through from going out to driving. I don't know who I am now other than a mum and don't know how to get the motivation and confidence to go out there and start living life again! Hope you have some words of advice.

Thanks.

Kirsti's Response

Hi Skye,

Firstly, I just wanted to acknowledge you for being so courageous and coming forward with how you are feeling. I am an endless optimist so I truly believe by taking the first step is a step in the right direction. Like you, I was feeling 'down' 6 months after having my baby and I jumped on these feeling straight away. I worked closely with a life Coach and a Chinese herbalist. I trusted my intuition and sought help immediately

This is not straight forward answer and maybe somewhat complex. This is a common issue among many mums who I work with and without realising you are helping so many mums right now just by reaching out. So I applaud you for that.

I have put together some questions for you and for other mums to may be experiencing similar feelings. Please grab a pen and paper and write your answers in a journal. It's amazing what answers actually come to the surface. It's a great want to really look at what's really going on.

  • How long have you felt this way?
  • This is something you would like to create change around?
  • How much longer do you want to feel this way?
  • Is this situation working for you? If no then changes need to be made to turn this around.
  • If you could snap your fingers right now and have your dream life by being confident, happy, fulfilled emotionally, dream job, happy family - how would that feel?
  • What would your dream life look like? What would you be doing?
  • How can you create some balance and me time in your life?
  • What activities do you love doing?
  • What activities make you feel the happiest?

Exercise

  1. Grab a yellow sticky note.
  2. Write down on the piece of paper 3 new things you would like to draw into your life. BE SPECIFIC. eg new car, new oven, 5 new clients to my business, etc.
  3. Write anything you wish that has meaning for you.
  4. Each morning, read this sticky note and get excited by the feeling of achieving success.
  5. Re-focus on what you want in your life as opposed to what you don't want.
  6. Like attracts like. If you have consistent negative thoughts about your life, then you will constantly feel down or bad.
  7. What are you grateful for?
  8. What do you love in your life?
  9. What are you proud of?

You may also want to consider consulting with a counsellor, Life Coach or other health professional to assist you to get back on track. If you would like to speak to me personally for a free coaching session to go into more depth about what you are feeling, please call me on 02 8521 9433.
