Just Be... Mother and MD!

Just Be provides women with the tools to create the perfect work-life balance

July 2007: Just Be is Australia's first online job search and career resource for women, created to address a gap in the job search industry for employers and female job seekers.

Recent reports released indicate that mothers trying to manage their careers and families topped the list of Victoria's discrimination payouts last year. Just Be has been developed to increase the awareness and stimulate renewed discussions about equal opportunities for women in the workplace and encourage companies to support diversity and flexibility.

Recognising that the way in which men and women seek to manage their careers is quite different, as are their needs and the kind of support networks they look for, Just Be offers an online destination tailored to providing appropriate resources for women to manage their working lifestyle.

Since Just Be entered the marketplace in December 2006, they have recorded a 512 per cent overall increase in visitors to the website. They now average 15,000 jobs ads per month, a figure indicative of the number of employers serious about providing flexible job opportunities for women. Just Be provides more than just jobs - they offer a centralised online information portal , empowering women to manage and balance their careers and family commitments. The demand for a resource of this nature is evident.

Australian Young Business and Professional Woman of the Year for 2002 and Just Be Managing Director, Lisa Pititto, says, "Just Be is a resource for both female job seekers and employers.  We offer women jobs, tailored career resources and tips from industry leaders, inspiring articles on other working women and an opportunity to network and participate in an interactive online forum, whilst providing an environment for employers to advertise their vacancies and be recognised for embracing diversity and flexible working arrangements".

Of the 45 per cent share of the Australian workforce that women hold, around 46 per cent of female employees work part-time (*Australian Government Productivity Commission 2006) which reflects the influence of family commitments on female participation. Between 1985 and 2005, the percentage of females working part-time rose from 37.1 to 45.8 per cent*. This increase reflects the use of part-time work to help women balance paid work and family or caring commitments.

Unfortunately women are still under represented in many industries and fields, particularly at senior management levels, so providing access to the right support and information is crucial for female job seekers and employers. Just Be targets male dominated industries and workplaces looking to increase female participation and diversification.

Major supporters of Just Be include ANZ, Ernst & Young, Westpac, IBM, Link Recruitment, Robert Half, Michael Page and major women's networks such as Women's Network Australia (WNA), Australian Federation of Business & Professional Women (BPW) and Corporate Chicks.
